Gradient Stripes

Good afternoon everyone! I’m in Los Angeles today for a doctor’s appointment. At the moment I’m sitting in the Farmer’s Market, eating pizza and writing this post. Today I have some new nail art I’ve wanted to try for a while: sponge gradient over striping tape. I chose pink tones for this gradient, using e.l.f.‘s “Nude” and BP.‘s “Pink Flamingo”. The solid color is  Pink Flamingo. I think this ended up looking really cool, the gradient is pretty subtle but I believe they look better if you use polishes that are already similar in color and keep it around just two or three different shades. I was going for something lowkey and not too flashy, anyway.

Let me know what you think of this, and what your favorite color combos are for gradient stripes?

Watercolor Technique

(Why do my hands look so brown?) I was inspired by a video tutorial I saw on Instagram. The only polish in this mani are the base color and the topcoat. The triangles were painted using watercolors! The tutorial showed lots of orange and brown tones so I went with that and I think the outcome is pretty cool. My topcoat didn’t react with the watercolor paint, for some reason I thought it would but it all came together. You might be able to tell the lines are a little messy. The striping tape wasn’t a very good dam against runny watercolor. But otherwise I enjoyed trying out this technique and incorporating things I don’t ever use into a hobby I do all the time and giving it a purpose.

What do you think of this technique?

BornPrettyStore Stamping Plate QA88 Review

Hey guys! Back on WordPress because Blogger wasn’t working out. Today I have a review of Born Pretty Store’s QA88 stamping plate. I bought it here on Amazon. I really like plates that have an all over pattern, instead of specific designs and patterns confined to a single area. The plate came in a super cute sleeve that I wasn’t expecting! I will definitely be buying more BPS branded plates to collect more of the sleeves.

This plate features lots of swirls and petals. I like how with every stamp you’re getting a unique print. I think BPS prides itself on its deeply etched designs, which is a must for stamping to work.

For this art, I used Sinful Colors “White Out” as my base, and Habit Cosmetics “Blue Velvet” as my stamping polish. I was very pleased with how it turned out! I was sad to take it off. I really loved this plate and I am actively looking for more like it, especially from BornPrettyStore!

Tell me what you think of this plate!

My Top 10 Polishes of 2014, Part Two

Here’s part two of my top 10 polishes from 2014! You can read part one here.

6. Ciate “Encore”

I got this in my Mini Mani Month from Ciate for Christmas 2013. I used this polish every time I did cherry blossoms, for some reason it just fit. I love this color because its not exactly red and not exactly orange. It’s a sort of brown? The color is a bit hard to describe and the picture does not do it justice.

7. China Glaze “Fairy Dust”

I bought this when everyone on reddit was freaking out about it. So yes, it was an impulse buy, but I ended up using it a lot as a top coat for my more bright watermarbles. It truly is a magical polish that glitters amazingly in direct light. You can buy it at any local drugstore or Ulta for around $8.

8. Habit Cosmetics “Blue Velvet”

I won this in a giveaway and it opened up a world of navy blue polish. I reviewed it here and I still think it’s an amazing polish that dries nicely and leaves a beautiful shiny deep blue. This is one of the few polishes that I would wear by itself without adding any art to it because it was just too lovely to distract from! You can buy it from Habit Cosmetics for $18.

9. Chanel “Peridot”

My cousin got me this for my birthday. I have zero clue where she got it, because I searched to the deepest depths of the internet to find it and came up with nothing except some people selling it on eBay for $25-$50. Anyway. This polish is indescribable. I reviewed it here and honestly the swatches I did are terrible. It’s really hard to capture this polish in action! I wore it many times by itself and felt fancy as heck every time.

10. H&M “Nude 3”

This polish came in a set of 4 different shades of nude/beige from H&M. I was not expecting the quality that this polish has. It’s a very pretty, shiny nude that would work well on many different skin tones. It’s a nice polish for work or professional events when you can’t have anything flashy on your nails; I wore it when I had to dress up for parties or formal things. I bought it at H&M in Boulder, Colorado for about $5.

There’s my last 5 of my top 10! Are you gonna try out any of my favorites for 2015?
